Cop Hospitalized After Long Island Man Becomes Combative During Traffic Stop, Police Say

A police officer was hospitalized after a Long Island motorist allegedly became combative after being stopped near an intersection.

Officers conducted the traffic stop of a 2012 Dodge Challenger in Valley Stream in the vicinity of Hook Creek Boulevard and 136th Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2.

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver, Albert Dodson, age 30, of Hempstead, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, according to Nassau County Police. 

While attempting to place Dodson under arrest, he became combative and began to resist, causing an officer to sustain injuries, said police. 

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Dodson has been charged with:

  • Assault,
  • Resisting arrest, 
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation,
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation,
  • Multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations. 

He will be arraigned on Thursday, Oct. 3, at First District Court in Hempstead.
